Last night I watched Notorious, with Ingrid Bergman and I fell in love. You may also know her from Casablanca, but in Hitchcock’s film she is tall, elegant, and exquisitely beautiful. At the age of 29 she has not a line on her face and even when she raises her eyebrows her forehead barely wrinkles. She is a true beauty.
Alas, like us all, she was subject to aging and developing imperfections and weathering spots. Of course she aged well, but by the time she played her last Oscar-winning role in 1974 at the age of 59, she had begun to have creases around her mouth and lines in the circles under her eyes.
Today she probably would’ve been able to have wrinkle removal and laser rejuvenation to look just as good as she did in Notorious, maintaining her beauty for another couple of decades. That’s how modern actresses and actors stay looking so young and healthy and wrinkle-free. They invest in a little wrinkle removal and some botox treatment here and there and they are able to command attention as international sex symbols well into their 40s and 50s.
If only Ingrid Bergman had had the chance for wrinkle removal. Her beauty would’ve been that much more permanent.
